Out of the blue, on purpose.
Out of the Blue is a small, private tool for one person and the family and friends around them. They plan what they want to do each day; one of you calls to help them begin — and they never know when the call is coming. That's exactly what makes it feel real.
How it works
- Each morning, your loved one lists what they want to do that day — "Gym, 4pm" is plenty.
- Some tasks get a call. Around the task's time, one of you gets a text: "Check in now." Nobody — not even the caller — knows in advance which tasks it will be. The call just arrives, the way a friend's call does.
- Afterwards, they jot a few words about how it went. No streaks, no scores, no red marks — a quiet day looks just like any other.
- Once a week, look back over the notes together and gently adjust how often calls come. Turning it up is exactly as valid as turning it down.
Why the surprise matters
Most check-in apps run on schedules, and schedules become routine: the Tuesday call becomes the Tuesday obligation, easy to see coming and easy to tune out — for both of you.
Out of the Blue works the other way. Because no one knows which moments will bring a call, every call lands as a genuine "I was thinking of you" — not a duty performed on time. And on the days no call comes, just knowing one might is often enough to help someone begin.
Made for a family, not a feed
- One private circle per person, up to 10 family members and friends.
- Everyone sets their own days, and can step back for a holiday without asking anyone.
- Alerts arrive by ordinary text message — nothing to install.
- Calm by design: no gamification, no guilt, nothing to keep up with.
What it costs
US$7 a month per circle — one loved one plus up to 10 supporters. Cancel anytime; if a payment lapses, everything is kept safe and simply pauses.
